Jaime Borras, Motorola

Jaime Borras is Corporate Vice President of Technology for Motorola's iDEN Networks and Devices business, located in Plantation, Florida. He is responsible for leading the development of new breakthrough products and technologies that ultimately become key elements of success for various high volume businesses at Motorola. He has held his current position since 2002, after a variety of engineering and technical management positions.

Jaime Borras started with Motorola in 1974 as an electrical engineer in the company's Communications Division and has twenty-nine years of experience in the field of Wireless Communications Systems, Digital Signal Processing, and Integrated Circuits. He earned his Bachelor of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering and Physics and a Master in Electrical Engineering degree from Florida Atlantic University.

In March, 2003, Jaime Borras was honored by being selected as one of the 50 Most Important Hispanics in Business and Technology by the editors of Hispanic Engineer & Information Technology magazine. He was selected from hundreds of candidates in government, academic, and Corporate America. Jaime was chosen based on his progressive leadership responsibilities, achievements in helping to advance access to technology, demonstrated effectiveness in engaging technology within the global market economy, and his contributions to furthering technical literacy within the Hispanic community.

Jaime Borras was selected as the winner of the 1996 Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Award for one of the most prestigious categories in the competition, Outstanding Technical Achievement. He is a Motorola Science Advisory Board Associate and was named a Distinguished and Master Innovator by Motorola in 1992 and 1994, respectively. In 1996, he received the title of Dan Noble Fellow, the highest honor award for technologists at Motorola. Jaime holds 38 United States patents and a Motorola Engineering Award of Excellence.

Jaime Borras is also a mentor, coach and role model to engineering students and his staff. He has participated in several Engineer Week fairs at Colleges and Universities, in addition to speaking at Career Day events in local schools. He has coached and trained new engineers in the Technical Mentor Program, and has actively participated in the Excellence in Engineering summer-internship program working closely with the summer engineering students.
